Playing with food...

English muffin pizzas always bring me back to my childhood. I remember my mom always tried to have a few kid-friendly meals during the week. I recall the "hot dog bar" where she would cut up hot dogs into slices and give us toothpicks to eat them. She gave us dipping trays with various condiments, and it was always so much fun.

So the hot dogs and these pizzas were two of my favorite meals. We usually got to pick our own toppings and make them ourselves. So I decided to continue the tradition and make them with Harper tonight. Both she and Esme love black olives and salami, so those were the toppings of choice. I have found that if she helps me put dinner together, she has more of a tendency to eat. And they are perfect for little hands and little tummies.

Any traditions you plan on keeping with your kids?

Tutu cute for you...

Got 9 rolls of tulle today and 8 rolls of ribbon! So excited, but kinda freaking out at the amount of work I have to do. It almost makes me freeze up and not do anything. Gotta get started somewhere! Here are the tutu colors I will have available, and my sizing charts:

All Roots & Wings {Kids} tutus and dresses can be made to order. For the best fit we recommend providing measurements upon checkout, or using the sizing charts below.

NOTE: In each of our tutus and dresses, waist bands and chest bands are made with 1" non-roll elastic, and will stretch an additional 2-3" to allow for growth. Tutus and dresses can also be made with crochet bands instead of elastic bands. Crochet bands fit sizes Newborn-5T.  Larger sizes available at an additional charge.

Kars4Kids...

So, I got accepted into my first craft show, and I am sooooooo excited! Freaked at the amount of work I have to do in 2 months time, but excited nonetheless. The date is April 21, 2012, and I hope that you come out to see me (and maybe buy a tutu or two!). All proceeds from the Kars4Kids Nashville Car Show got to Tennessee Baptist Children's Home, and entrance is FREE! What better way to get out with the family. Enjoy some music, see awesome cars, trucks, and motorcycles, eat good food, and visit with some pretty awesome vendors. They are expecting over 10,000 people this year!

And my friend Kathy will be there showing off her awesome kids dresses, capes and knitted hats, so don't forget to stop by and see her too!

Harper and Mommy Day

Today was the beginning of Harp's birthday weekend. I decided today would be a great time to spend time with my girl - just the two of us. Harper has never gotten her haircut (yes, i know she's 4), but she didn't even start getting hair until she was almost 3! But before her curly hair became a curly mullet, I figured it was about time, and what better way to start off her 4th year. She had so much fun, and enjoyed being pampered. For anyone who knows Harper, you know how "girly" she is - there is not enough glitter and lace on this planet to satisfy her. I hope she doesn't get used to this (but I think I've created a monster). So here are some pics at the salon, and the final result!

We decided to see how she would look with straight hair. OMG!? She looks so grown up, and oh so different! She is still my little curly girl though!! It almost looks like a wig.

We also got our nails done:

Had so much fun! She said she wants to get a pedicure next. Hide your wallet, Daddy!

Harper's almost 4 :(

So I made these cute and simple princess cupcakes for Harper's class today. She LOVED them, and they were yummo! Only two more days until the party, and three more days until her actual bday. Where did the time go.

On a side note, found these in the Valentines clearance section at Walmart tonight - edible dessert decals, and cupcake stencils. And I got them both for a total of $1.50 :) Now, I have to decide what to do with them?!

My new dress form!

Finally found one that I like that didn't cost a fortune. I kept finding these really busty va-va-va-voom dress forms, and thought that it would be totally weird and inappropriate to have tutus for little girls on a womanly body. Found this one at Hobby Lobby yesterday on clearance for $35.99. Well actually the hubby did, while chasing down the baby, who decided to make a run for it. So I guess thanks goes to Esme!

Here's Harper posing with the dress form. She is such a ham. Still cannot believe that my little baby is going to be 4 one week from today :(

DIY Valentines Day treats for classmates...

Check out these cutie-patootie treats and cards for Harp's MDO. I made the heart lollipop covers out of felt I already had. I wanted them to mimic conversation hearts, so I chose to use different colors. With just a little glue, some raised stickers I found at the dollar bin at Target, and some ribbon, I have a super easy and unique gift for each of her friends.

What are you doing for VDay? Store bought? DIY? Or a combination of both?

Fancy Legs...

Here is the newest creation. Loving how the first ones came out, and know they will only get better. I have so many ideas running through my brain right now, but not enough time. Why can't I just win the lottery so I can do what I really love... make stuff! So, here they are.

Valentine's Day project...

Decided a Valentine's Day project was a great way to spend a little time with Harper. So I stopped by the store and picked up a few items.

I started with this hanging heart decor I found for $3.99. The hearts are attached with a thick center wire, and the middle two hearts can spin. I knew I wanted to deconstruct it, so that I could utilize it for multiple purposes - a project for Harp, and one for myself.

Harper and her Vanna White hands
Waiting very patiently
Here are the hearts after I took them apart using wire cutters:

I then gave Harper a few supplies to decorate the two smaller hearts:

Adhesive hearts for $.97
Alphabet pop-up stickers for $1.47 (I got two so she could spell her name)
I also gave her some paper flowers to attach that I already had on hand (will see on the final product). Here she is hard at work:

And here is her creation:

The front side (she decided to add Esme's name too - how sweet!)
The back (Notice how she wrote "Love" and then used an "8", which could almost read "Love Infinity")
She was so happy with the end result. Isn't that what matters. Quality time together for less than $7.

Wondering what happened with the big outside heart? Just wait and see. Post coming soon!

Stupid H.O.A.

So, we were supposed to get chickens this March, since the city ordinance passed in Nashville. But this is the email we got from our stupid Homeowners Association this morning:

"In case you are wondering, Article X, Section 12 (b) prohibits raising poultry."

Considering, I do not have a copy of these regulations, I am a bit in the dark about this Article X. What I do know, is that our HOA rules have been in place since 1987 (or thereabouts), and we can't even have garage sales in our neighborhood for goodness sake. Why don't we get out of the stone age, The Woodlands! Arggggh, so ready to be out of a subdivision. Tired of theses stupid rules!

How could someone say no to this face!
